Sourdough is the oldest and most original form of leavened bread. The oldest recorded use of sourdough is from the Ancient Egyptian civilizations, back around 1500 B.C.

Dear Neil: What causes pecans to fall early (August and September) and be eaten up with a black fungus? We used to get 75 pounds of pecans from each of our two trees, but starting two years ago the fungus has ruined them.

It was a nice day for sprucing up the Alpine downtown streets and alleys as Zackary Romero, Heather Yadon, Sara Tandy, Susan Rayburn, Liza Rayburn, and Adelina Beall get ready to work at Railroad Park in Alpine on July 24. The City of Alpine will accept entries for the 2021 #AlpineTXPhoto Contest through Sept. 30. This is the 11th year for the annual contest, named for the #AlpineTXPhoto hashtag which can be used to browse hundreds of previous contest photos on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

What activities were you involved in during your senior year? I participated in track and field and with the robotics team. Who was your most influential teacher or coach through high school? Betina Willmon was my most influential teacher as she spent a lot of time helping me with my class work and my artwork.

Riley Spencer, a junior at Angelo State University and a 2019 graduate of Alpine High School, recently performed with Opera Maya in Cancun, Mexico. This international classical music festival was founded in 2010 by American soprano Mary Grogan.
