Alfredo A. Soza, an Alpine High School graduate, died in San Antonio on November 30, at the age of 57. Alfredo accomplished much in his lifetime, earning a degree in Accounting from Sul Ross University in 1989, and a law degree from Texas Tech Law School in 1992. For many years he practiced law in West Texas.

Alfredo began his law practice by opening a solo practice immediately after law school in Odessa where he handled criminal defense, family law, personal injury, commercial litigation, and bankruptcy matters. In addition to his service to his clients, Alfredo was dedicated to representing those without the means to hire an attorney. He was awarded the Lifetime Dedication Award by the Ector County Bar Association and Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, “In recognition of providing outstanding Pro Bono Service to the Indigent” on October 28, 2010. In addition to his pro bono service, Alfredo mentored a number of attorneys who currently practice bankruptcy law in the Permian Basin.

In 2015, he moved to Alpine to assist with the management of Soza Realty and its investment properties. Alfredo was a self-taught carpenter, mechanic, plumber, and electrician. His wicked humor, and encyclopedic knowledge of popular culture, sports, movies, and television always made him the go-to authority on just about all topics. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren as well as hunting, fishing, target shooting, and restoring old cars and trucks.

Alfredo is survived by his parents, Robert L. and Evalina Soza, his brother, Robert L. Soza, Jr., and his wife, Roxanna Gonzales-Soza, his children Felicia Soza-Lowery and her husband, Christian Lowery, Elias Soza and his wife, Isabel Mendez, and Nina Soza as well as his grandchildren Langston and Zora Soza-Lowery.

The Rosary Service will be held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 15. The Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, on Saturday, December 16, with burial to follow at Holy Angeles Cemetery and reception at Our Lady of Peace Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations “In Memory of Alfredo Soza” to The Alpine Public Library at 805 West Ave. E., Alpine 79830 or at alpinepubliclibrary. org or the Sunshine House Senior Center, 402 E. Holland Ave., Alpine 79830 or at sunshinehousealpine. com.
