Olivia Ramos, 107, of Alpine passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 8. She was preceded in death by her husband, Salomon Ramos, Jr., daughter Rosemary, and the following sisters: Augustina Gonzales, Susana Galindo, Angelita Valenzuela; and the following brothers: Eusebio, Manuel, Daniel, Gorgonio, and Guadalupe Ramirez.

Olivia was born in Alpine on September 18, 1916, to Hilaria Herrera Ramirez. She was a decedent of the original people of what is currently known as West Texas, Big Bend, and Northern Mexico. She was a decedent of the human remains found in Pinto Canyon (Spirit Eye Cave) dating back approximately 1,000 years ago. Olivia was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and a member of Our Lady of Peace Acción Católicas (Guadalupanas). She was honored by the church as the oldest living member on November 4, 2017. The City of Alpine commemorated her on her 100th birthday and named September 20, 2016, as Olivia Ramos Day in Alpine. On May 20, 2022, she was honored as Grand Marshal of the Cinco de Mayo parade in Alpine. She worked as a housekeeper and nanny for the Kokernot family for several years prior to her marriage to Salomon Ramos, Jr. on May 15, 1941.

Her following children are left to honor and share her memory, spirit, and legacy: Julie (Cruz Villalba), Bertha Marquez, Olivia (Eduardo Fierro), Lucia (David Stein), Yolanda Ramos (Siegmar Horsch), Esther Ramos (Martin Owen), and Anthony Ramos (Cynthia), grandchildren: Cynthia Gonzales, Dolores Garcia, Sylvia Connor, Denise Carrillo, William Marquez, David Marquez, Rosemary Ortega, Juan Erbey Ortega, Mark Stein, Siegmar Horsch, Phillip Horsch, Ian Owen, Julia Owen, Salomon Ramos, Felina Molinar, Michelle Ramos, and Sara Ramos, great-grandchildren: David Garcia, Julieta Colomo, Alexis and Victoria Lozano, Joseph and Jaeden Garcia, Maximo Carrillo, Chester Lockard, Riley Bray, Zenith, Aurora, Stella, Angelica, Syd, Rayden, and Astra Horsch, Lyra Owen, Audriena, Gabriella, and Salomon Ramos Jr, and great-great-grandchildren: Adrian Garcia, Alexia Garcia, Camila Molinar, and baby Espinoza.

Visitation and viewing will be held on Sunday, December 17 at 5 p.m. and Rosary at 7 p.m. at Alpine Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, December 18 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with burial at Holy Angels Cemetery to follow.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Sunshine House.
