Coach Hugh Morrissey and his Alpine Fightin’ Bucks have won two crucial district basketball games in a row. The Bucks moved to 14-6 and 2-1 in district after beating both Kermit and Anthony away from home on their courts. The Bucks won 68-49 against the Kermit Yellow Jackets on Jan. 21, and 51-39 on Jan. 25 against the Anthony Wildcats.

Alpine resident Damion Benavente, 30, on Jan. 24 was sentenced to life in prison for aggravated sexual abuse of a minor.

On Jan. 10, Alpine Animal Services donated oxygen masks for small animals and pets on behalf of Invisible Fence. During the course of fires, animals can succumb to smoke inhalation. These masks will allow firefighters to more effectively help resuscitate as well as provide recovery for affected animals. Courtesy
