The Texas Well Owner Network is hosting a water well screening on Tuesday, May 4, in Alpine to give area residents the opportunity to have their well water screened. A meeting will follow on May 5 to explain the results.

The water sample dropoff will be on Tuesday, May 4 from 8:30–10 a.m. at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office at 2101 FM 1703 in Alpine, or the Brewster County Groundwater Conservation District office at 203 North Seventh Street in Alpine.

A meeting explaining screening results will be delivered to participants at 10 a.m. on May 5 at the Alpine Civic Center.

Those wanting to have their well water screened should pick up sample collection materials from the AgriLife Extension office or groundwater conservation district office.

Samples must be turned in by 10 a.m. on May 4. The cost for each sample is $10.

Samples will be screened for contaminants, including total coliform bacteria, E. coli, nitratenitrogen, and salinity.

Residents should be at the May 5 meeting to receive results, learn corrective measures, and improve understanding of private well management.

For more information, contact the AgriLife Extension office in Brewster County at 432-837-6207, or the Brewster County Groundwater Conservation District at 432-386-3437.
