The woman walking across Texas: Walking with Edie Littlefield Sunby through Alpine

According to Edie Littlefield Sunby, a person who has taken on the momentous task of walking across one of the largest states in the country, “Walking makes us curious.” Perhaps it doesn’t seem as momentous after her journeys across Mexico and the U.S. from the Pecos River to each coast by way of the Old Spanish Trail.

Mountain lion regulations slated for vote May 23

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is proposing a new ruling (31 TAC §65.950,) concerning mountain lions. This proposal is listed in the Texas Register, Volume 49 Number 16 for the week of April 19 under Title 31 Natural Resources and Conservation, Subchapter X. Mountain Lions. Of the 16 states that are home to breeding populations of mountain lions, Texas is the only state that does not currently regulate the hunting and trapping of the species.

USBP to hold open house May 16

The U.S. Border Patrol Big Bend Sector hosts its annual Open House to display equipment and assets used by Border Patrol agents during their daily operations. Items such as surveillance equipment, rescue equipment, and vehicles will be displayed and demonstrated. Sector Horse Patrol Units and K-9 teams will be on hand and will offer demonstrations. Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations will have a helicopter on display and CPB’s Office of Field Operations will be available to discuss port of entry operations. Big Bend Sector leadership will be in attendance. The event is open to the public and many school groups will attend. The event will begin at 10 a.m. on May 16 at the Big Bend Sector Headquarters, 300 Madrid Street in Marfa and will conclude at 1 p.m.
