Robert Polanco, Jr., has been awarded the title of Master of Code, “considered the PhD of building safety codes certification,” according to May issue of “Building Safety Journal.” Master of Code is awarded by the International Code Council headquartered in Washington, D.C., and regulating building safety worldwide.

Late on June 21 Brewster County deputies conducted a traffic stop on an RV near the Big Bend National Park entrance on Texas Highway 118 south of Study Butte. The vehicle was occupied by 49 illegal aliens from Brazil, Ecuador, and Mexico, along with two U.S. citizens, including the driver.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced the proposed critical habitat for the endangered Texas hornshell, a freshwater mussel found in Texas and New Mexico. The Texas hornshell was listed as endangered on Feb. 9, 2018.

Before discussing the various local stage stations on the overland mail route, it is necessary to understand the operations of this huge transcontinental enterprise. The sheer number of animals, personnel, equipment, and stations necessary to cross the continent made this one of the largest and most complex transportation efforts of the age, comparable to the construction of the Erie Canal.
